I Bought Groceries!

Hooray! And I think I got some pretty good deals too. I looked for the specials, like on bread and butter and laundry detergent. So everything at the grocery store was about 35 dollars, I think. I mean, I didn’t get that much. I got bread, butter, salt, pasta sauce, pasta, salad dressing, lettuce, green onion, cheese, and laundry detergent. So if I cook tonight, I think I would have pasta with red sauce and salad. Not a bad dinner, if I do say so myself. I think I may attempt it.
Oh, but once I open the pasta sauce, will it keep? It says I can freeze it. Hmmm. Any adult, would you like to answer my question?

But I did get a total non-deal though. I went to Big W thinking they would have a cheap colander, and they only had a couple and they were both $15, so I thought, since this is at Big W, cheapest place I have found here, this must be the cheapest colander. So I bought it. But then when I got to the grocery store, I saw they had one for $8! What?? Big W, you have failed me. I even thought the grocery store colander was prettier and looked less heavy.

Note to self: always get a cart. Always. Those little carrying baskets are just not big enough for a medium sized grocery list. I should really get one of those wheely carts that the little old ladies around here put their groceries in. I was joking about them to someone, but now I think they are a very smart idea. I was dragging my super heavy reusable grocery bags all over the place. Oh, and the grocery store is right across the street from a Starbucks, so I wanted to in and test it out, see if it was like American Starbucks.
Well, the drinks were just the same, so that’s good, eh mom? :D but the place was soooooo big! And there were tons of people in there all hanging out and sipping their drinks. So it must be the place to go when you want to just sit and look hip with your coffee and spiky hair. It even had a little upstairs area. Really, it was huge compared to American Starbucks. Kind of like McDonald’s. And the cup sizes were the same as in the states, I think. I got a tall white mocha (my favorite!!) and it seemed about the same size. I was worried about that, because when you go anywhere else, they always give you a cute little cup. But it’s hard to tell how they translate, because everything is in mL here instead of oz.

Gosh, I am so glad I took the tram today. My bags were so heavy. I just got a 2 hour ticket, which seems to work out pretty well because it is only $3.70 and 2 hours is generally enough time for me to get everything done. I might be doing that more often. But today, on Swanston, one of the two busiest streets in the city, the trams were few and far between. I had to wait probably 7 minutes for the first one, but that was hugely crammed with people, and then another 7 minutes for the second one, which I just decided to take even though it was just as packed. You usually only have to wait about one or two minutes for a tram, and they are much less packed.

I got to talk to my mom and sister on skype today, yay! It was wonderful. I went to my orientation meeting at ten, then came back at about 10:30 to talk to them before my next meeting at 11:30. Skype is very nice, even when you just talk with no video. Because then it’s just like calling someone, only free! I turned my video on so they could see me for a little while, so I could show them my room (or was it just you that was on at that time, mom?) so that was fun.

Oh my gosh I almost forgot! I had a good flirtatious encounter with an Australian guy last night. Everyone from orientation went to Turf, a local bar, as like an event for this week, and there were Australian students there as well. I met one named James. He was pretty cute, brown hair, my height. Accent, of course. ;) He sort of reached out to me to get my attention, and then we talked about our majors. But I was just about to leave, I was looking for my new friend Philippa to see if she wanted to walk back because we were about to go. So I didn’t talk to him for very long. He was super flirty though, with his arm around me. When I went to go get my other friends and leave, he hugged me goodbye and went in for a kiss (!!!) and I just turned my head so he kissed my cheek. I don’t really kiss random guys. SOME PEOPLE *cough cough * think I should have just gone for it, since I’m in Australian, what’s there to lose, etc, etc, but I would rather know a person’s last name and/or phone number before I kiss them. Haha. Anyway, he seemed rather sad to see me leave. As a farewell he said, “Well, I guess I’ll say g’day!” and I was like “… so you guys say g’day even when it’s nighttime?” hahaha I’m such a card. But they really do say “g’day” at night… : /

Anyway, a very fun night overall. I also danced with this guy from Uruguay named Francisco, like really dancing, with spinning and my hand in his etc. That was HILARIOUS. He just approached me and took my hands and we started singing “Brown-eyed Girl” to each other. Haha it was awesome. I hope I meet that guy again.

Oh, and I tried Goon! Did I explain what that was yet? It’s extremely cheap boxed wine. Classy, I know. But lots of people drink it here, it seems. I guess because it’s cheap. It wasn’t that bad. Kind of sweet, which was strange. Oh and last night, Monika, Philippa, Morgan and I all watched this funny Australian drama tv show in Morgan’s room (her room came with a tv, how unfair is that?!?!) I didn’t even catch the name of it. But it was sort of from the eyes of this old man who, in this episode, got beat up by a bunch of high school girls. Hahahaha yes! That actually happened. And his elderly wife went to the hospital. And then the rest of the show was just him feeling emasculated and upset that there was no system where you could always check up on everyone and make sure they are okay. (I was like, “sir, there are things called cell phones.”) I guess the wine probably made it a little funnier, but I do believe it was pretty hilarious in the first place. Ahhh I really gotta start watching Australian tv shows.
Well, I’m going to go to RMIT village to have dinner with Morgan and Monika. I lied and said I didn’t have any food to contribute, because I kind of want to keep it to myself! Haha. I love everyone and miss everyone! Xoxoxoxo!

  2. It does sound like fun. Aussie guys may be quicker than American guys, or maybe they think American women are quicker?? Maybe we'll find out.
